Anders Portin appointed as head of Sustainable Dvelopment and Resources unit at the Finnish Forest Industries Federation

M.Sc. (For.) Anders Portin, 47, has been appointed as Senior Vice President, Sustainable Development and Resources of Finnish Forest Industries Federation as of October 1, 2006. 

Anders Portin is currently working as head of the international unit at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Finland. He has also several years’ background in Skogscentralen Skogskultur, a central forestry organisation in Finland. Anders Portin has wide experience in international forestry and environmental issues and especially in cooperation on EU level.

The operating environment of the Finnish forest industry has undergone significant changes in recent years and this is posing new challenges for the sector’s lobbying efforts. In response to the challenges posed by the changed situation, the Finnish Forest Industries Federation has clarified its strategic focal points and tasks.

In addition to labour market issues, the Federation will more clearly focus on matters associated with competitiveness and the innovation environment as well as sustainable development and resources. These issues have a significant impact on the ability of companies to operate and invest in Finland and Europe. Lobbying efforts on behalf of the wood products industry and wood construction especially will also be strengthened. In addition, the Federation will be an active participant in research, product development and innovation projects of the sector.
