Sawmill industry

Sawmilling is the oldest industry in the Finnish forest-based sector and one of Finland's first export industries. Finland is presently among the biggest producers of sawn goods in Europe, with about 60% of production being exported. Sawn goods as well as primary and secondary converted products are used mainly in construction. Wood is the only building material based on a renewable raw material. Sawmilling by-products are used as high-quality paper ingredients. Sawmills are also significant producers and users of bioenergy and will play an important role in future bioenergy supply.
