Wood is a valuable, renewable and recyclable material that has many uses. In the global economy it is a significant source of national value added, and utilizing it also promotes environmental and energy policy solutions. Slower growth in demand for paper and an actual downturn in demand on some markets have led to restructuring as a result of the Finnish forest industries' profitability crisis. The tightening and reorganizing process is a painful but necessary response to this. The entire forest-based sector is renewing itself and developing new business models, as it had done throughout its history. The forest industries must adjust to the changing operating environment and develop new operating models to meet current challenges.
