Biomass and biofuels
Markets of wood based biomass and biofuels are increasing rapidly in the near future. The use of biomass in the National, European and International energy and fuel supply is playing an increasingly important role. Both political issues (e.g. National and EU legislation, Kyoto protocol, Bali agreement) and market issues (e.g. economic opportunities, responsible business) encourage the use of biomass.
Modern forest industry produces variety of products made out of wood. Besides of fibres, wood is used for conventional solid biofuels (e.g. pellet, briquette and wood chip) and for future products of biorefineries (e.g. liquid biofuels, biochemicals and biopolymers). Forest biomass is a raw material, products and energy, which will replace fossil raw materials and fuels and reduce environmental impacts.
