Social significance

The forest industry bases its operations on the sustainable exploitation of a renewable, recyclable and climate-friendly raw material. Together with the cluster that has built up around it, the forest industry provides Finland with about a third of its net export revenues. The forest cluster provides employment directly or indirectly for about 200,000 Finns and for almost 100,000 people in other countries.

In 2008 alone, the forest industry invested  €840 million in Finland. In addition, cluster companies that are part of the technology industry made substantial domestic investments.
