Construction products and other wood products

The further processed wood products are mainly used by the construction industry
Most further processed sawn timber products are used by the construction industry, which is strongly a domestic-market industry. Varying standards and building codes in different countries make the exports complicated. Wood products account for the majority of Finland’s overall exports of construction products, however.

The builders' joinery industry manufactures roof trusses, window frames, doors as well as parquet floorings and other products for builders.

The prefabricated house industry makes house packages and modular building components. At present the typical Finnish one-family house built is a timber frame prefabricated house. Finland also has a significant log-house manufacturing industry. Prefabricated houses as well as log houses are also exported to some extent.

The Finnish joinery industry uses lots of wood in the making of, for example, kitchen furnishings, cabinet systems and cupboards. Finland is also producing furniture. The imports of furniture have grown remarkably in Finland as it has done in the whole EU area. The production is expanding especially in China which has rapidly become the most important exporter of furniture.

Wood packaging is also manufactured in Finland; transport pallets are the most significant product in this category. Wood is also used to make transport boxes and rolls.
