Cei-Bois Building with wood (BWW) -process aims to enhance the use of wood in construction by focusing R&D and standardization supporting the objectives of the process.
An important part of the process is the BWW -website which is intended to become as one portal for all questions: flexible cost efficient and user-friendly platform focusing on R&D to visualise and disseminate the results of the BWW process, including links to validated national information sources.
More wood in construction
A prerequisite for enhanced use of wood in construction is that competence and knowledge of the use of wood in construction develop respectively. As design of timber structures is not a common knowledge among all the professional designers, the threshold to start using wood as a building material may be too high.
A substantial part of the designers' everyday business is the control and expertise of codes and regulations. In most cases, it is up to designers to prove the structures fulfil the requirements set out for them. Most used building techniques, building codes and requirements related to them are familiar to designers. In these cases, the potential suppliers are also often common knowledge.
More information needed on the use of wood in construction
To be able to make the design of timber structures attractive the BWW -portal should be able to provide not only the European knowledge and technical background how to use wood in construction but also easy access into European and national building regulations and codes plus information about potential system and products suppliers.
The vision of the BWW portal is to become as one portal for all questions in the three areas mentioned above.
State of the art
At the moment the BWW portal is an internal tool for process members. It is practical place to gather all relevant information. The classification system makes possible to sort the information for several different purposes in future.
Currently BWW portal consists of two parts:
All documentation of the BWW process and projects shall be stored at BWW knowledgebase and/or BWW work place. This includes the documentation of the steering group, technical working group and projects.
The BWW knowledgebase is open for all BWW process partners. To browse this information, one must register her-/himself as KB user.
The BWW work place is open for the nominated and authorized project partners only project by project. It allows sharing information inside the project with the nominated group of people only. To browse this information, one must register her-/himself as WP folder user of the project in case.
The projects are obligated to use the BWW work place for the documentation. This will be referred to in project agreements.
The coordinators of each group or project in case are responsible to take care that all necessary documentation is placed in the accurate position and that information presented is up to date.
